The first half of the DTM season has
flown by, and it seems incredible that this weekend Augusto Farfus will be
embarking on the second half of his inaugural season in the series with round
six at the Nürburgring.
This next event comes after a five
week gap since the show event in Munich, and the Brazilian can’t wait to get
back to ‘proper’ racing at the famous circuit in the Eifel region
of Germany.
However, he has had some time to relax since Munich, although he was too busy
to head back to Brazil with his family and also he had a test with BMW Team RBM
in readiness for the next race.
It should not come as a surprise
that the 28-year-old driver from Curitiba keeps a keen eye on fellow Brazilian
drivers racing in Europe. Therefore on the weekend of the 4th and 5th August he
flew to the UK and to Snetterton to watch Pietro Fantin, who drives for Carlin
Motorsport in the British F3 series and also comes from Curitiba.
The weekend wasn’t the best for the 20-year-old
with a dnf, eighth and ninth in the three races, but he is now seventh overall
in the points standings. Augusto had to suffer the typical English summer
weather on the Sunday, as there was heavy rain. Then he had to cope with his
baggage being very slow turning up when he arrived back in Nice – he took about
the same time to arrive as the length of his flight!
However, it was not a long rest at
home for Augusto as he then went straight to Viareggio to have a fitness
check-up with Formula Medicine, the company that looks after the health of all
the BMW Motorsport DTM drivers.
While the Nürburgring is a track
Augusto knows very well and enjoys racing on, it is the much longer Norschleife
track that he knows rather than the 3.629 Grand Prix circuit where he will be
racing in his Castrol EDGE BMW M3 DTM. With a 24 hour win to his name, he is
hoping to add more success to his name this coming weekend.
“I suppose I have to consider this
another new track. I know the Nordschleife well from racing in the 24 hour race
several times, but I have never raced on the Grand Prix circuit. However, it is
even newer to BMW Team RBM as the team has never been there before.
“It is a track that is very close to
my heart after winning there in 2010. I know the weather is totally
unpredictable and you can experience anything from snow to sun in a weekend,
but I still enjoy going to such a beautiful region of Germany. I also like
tracks that have history and the Nürburgring has this in bucket loads!
“BMW knows the track very well from
its many associations with the track, and I am confident we have a car that
will go well there, and especially in the fast corners. The track should suit
my style of driving and the aim is to have a good weekend and score some big points.”
The first session for the DTM
drivers will be on Friday with the roll out from 09.45 to 10.15 followed by
free practice one from 13.20 to 15.10. Free practice two is on Saturday from
09.00 to 10.50 and then qualifying is from 13.40 to 14.50. The warm up on
Sunday is from 10.20 to 10.50 and the 49 lap race will start at 14.00 with the
pit stop window being from laps 12 to 37.
