Brazil’s
Augusto Farfus is without doubt looking forward to racing on a longer
version of the Moscow Raceway track compared to the one used last year.
The Brazilian was third then at the first visit of the DTM to Russia,
and the highest placed BMW driver, and he is hoping he may be able to
move a step or two up the podium this year.
“I
really enjoyed racing at the Moscow Raceway last year and, obviously,
having had such a good result fills me with optimism ahead of this
year. I am very happy we are on the longer version, as I think the
general feeling last year was this would really suit the DTM cars,” said
the Castrol EDGE BMW M4 DTM driver.
The
2014 DTM season has not been as good as 2013 for the BMW Team RBM
driver, but that hasn’t meant he is not in good spirits heading to
Russia: “I am hopeful we will increase our points total and a podium
finish is certainly what I am aiming for.”
This race in Russia was the sixth on the 2013 calendar, but this time is the fifth of the season, so the halfway point. The
3.93 kilometre track is 1.4 kilometres longer than the one used last
year, has a variety of fast and slow corners as well as a long straight.
While it is named after the Russian capital, it is in fact 79
kilometres from the city in the Volokolamsky District of Moscow Oblast. It was also celebrates its second anniversary on race day (13th July).
The
DTM action starts, as usual, on Friday, with the roll out from 15.45 to
16.20. On Saturday the two free practice sessions are from 11.00 to
12.00 and 14.15 to 15.15. Qualifying will be held from 18.40 to 19.30.
The race on Sunday starts at 15.30 and is run over 48 laps. The time in
Russia is two hours ahead of CET.
