For Augusto Farfus the Spa 24 Hours is the filling in a DTM sandwich, with him heading to the beautiful track in the Belgian Ardennes region between races in Moscow (RU) and Spielberg (AT). For the Brazilian this race has a special significance, as it will mean he has now raced at all the classic 24 hour races, adding this to Le Mans, the Nürburgring, Dubai and Daytona on his

He will be swapping his Castrol EDGE BMW M4 DTM for a BMW Z4 GT3 bearing the number 66 and competing in the Pro Class. He knows his team-mates, Jörg Müller (DE) and Maxime Martin (BE), very well. He has raced against the German in the past in the European and World Touring Car Championships, while the Belgian is currently a fellow BMW works driver in the DTM. The car is entered by BMW Sports Trophy Marc VDS and is part of a two-car team. The other car is the number 77 driven by Dirk Werner (DE), Markus Palttala (FI) and Lucas Luhr (DE), who has only recently been named as a driver due to the team principal, Bas Leinders (BE), deciding to concentrate on this important role rather than race.
Commenting on this special event for him Augusto said: “I am extremely motivated because Spa is a brilliant track. I have extremely fast and capable team-mates, we have a strong team behind us, so I think we have a chance to fight for the overall victory.”
Augusto also realises tackling a 24-hour race is very different to a shorter DTM race: “Of course you have to manage your package, and be able to save your energy to last 24 hours. We know our car is very fast, but it is incredibly important to preserve it, as you want to be there at the finishing line without any damage.”
The first time the cars competing in the 24 hour race go on the 7.004 kilometre track is Thursday for free practice, followed by pre-qualifying, qualifying and night qualifying. Then on Friday there will be the super pole session. The race starts at 16.30 on Saturday.
