The
sixth round on the ten event DTM calendar is held this weekend at the
Red Bull Ring near Spielberg. This is one of the most picturesque racing
circuits located in the Steiermark region of Austria, and this is a
place Augusto Farfus enjoys visiting.
The
Brazilian can’t wait to get out on this track, that has recently hosted
its first Formula One race for 11 years, in his Castrol EDGE BMW M4
DTM: “It is a great place. I
love the environment, and I think it is the most beautiful location of
any circuit we visit during the season.”
Last
year this race was the third of the season and looking back to that the
BMW Team RBM driver said: “Last year we had a good qualifying and race,
so I hope to repeat that. I
am also hoping for good weather, as there the weather can be tricky. I
think with good weather we can definitely do a good job.”
He not only likes the area, but also the track’s characteristics, as he explained: “It
is a high-speed circuit with fast corners, which I like very much and
should suit our car very well. It is very important to get a car with
good high-speed balance, but one that also allows you to brake well as
it is uphill braking.”
The
track is about two hours by car from Vienna. It was built in 1969 and
since then it has had several lay-outs and name changes. This is the
seventh DTM race to be held there, and over the years the fans have seen
some great races as it is good for overtaking opportunities.
The
DTM action starts, as usual, on Friday, with the roll out from 17.10 to
17.45. On Saturday the two free practice sessions are from 12.00 to
13.00 and 14.10 to 15.10. Qualifying will be held from 18.10 to 19.00.
The race on Sunday starts at 13.30 and is run over 47 laps of the 4.326
kilometre track.
