A year ago Augusto Farfus was in Munich and was very proud as he was announced as one of the first drivers to be signed up by BMW Motorsport for its return to the prestigious DTM. On Sunday it is a year to the day since that announcement, and he will be back in Munich in his Castrol EDGE DTM M3 DTM performing in front of fans in the iconic Munich Stadium.
This event will be very different to the series’ five races he has competed in so far. There are no points for this event as it is purely to put on a show for the fans. It will be run over a purpose built track inside the Olympic Stadium that is very close to BMW’s Munich headquarters, and this is the second year it has been run.
“It will be very special for me as it is the first anniversary of when I really became a DTM driver. I remember very well doing my first photo and autograph sessions as a DTM driver. It was pretty special.
“Even though I have done five races the challenges keep coming and this is another one. I have never done a stadium event before, so I have another learning curve and this is a unique event for us in the series. However, I am a racing driver and what I want to do is get in my car and race and this is another opportunity to do that. Obviously with no points up for grabs the pressure is not there, but still whatever I am driving and in whatever circumstances I want to win.”
The event will also focus on the entire BMW Team RBM crew as there will be pit stops to contend with. It is a knock-out competition so the drivers will hope to progress over the two days. The action starts on Saturday with lots of exciting displays as well as the DTM action. The DTM cars will be out on the track for the first time at 13.00 for the first round which lasts an hour. The quarter-finals are then from 14.30 to 14.50, the semi-finals from 17.05 to 17.20 and the final from 17.35 to 17.45.
Sunday’s action starts at 11.00 with the first round for 30 minutes. The last 16 go on the track from 13.25 to 13.55, the quarter-finals are from 14.50 to 15.20, the semi-finals from 15.30 to 15.40 and then the final from 15.50 to 16.00.
